I was never sure about this. In section 1 it's night, a naive girl is soon to leave Ireland. I probably got the images from William Trevor. In section 2 she's an artist's model (I had in mind Andrew Wyeth). No shadows. In section 3 she's off to watch an eclipse, having reached a state of balance, the event exposing "the bright rim of discovery between hope and reason". It's rare for my poems (or stories) to have jumps in time.
